ASTM A312 S31254/254SMO Duplex Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe For Offshore / Subsea
254SMO Pipe is one such pipe that is considered as a high austenitic grade. It has a strength that is 3 times the stainless steel 300 series. 254SMO pipe efficiently resists pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress corrosion cracking. 254SMO Tubing is well known for high ductility and good impact strength. It is also known as moly 6 due to the addition of molybdenum in trace amounts. 254SMO Pipe Suppliers recommend these pipes due to their ability to work under high temperatures and maintain high strength even under volatile conditions.
254SMO Seamless Pipe is usually used as replacements in components that are critical. Where various other grades fail due to pitting and chloride stress corrosion cracking. These 254 SMO Stainless Steel Pipes are said to be cost efficient and technically adequate that allows the value of the design to be 50% higher when compared to other austenitic stainless steels. Thus the thin walls save cost to a greater extent. 254SMO pipes are often known as high end austenitic steel. It is easy to fabricate and weld these pipes and tubes. It is suitable for use in seawater and brackish water.
ASTM A312 UNS S31254 is used in saltwater handling, chemical processing, food processing, and petroleum production. Moreover, these 254SMO Pipes are also used in pulp mill bleach systems, tall oil distillation columns, and flue gas desulfurization scrubbers. UNS S31254 Pipe is said to be tough to machine due to lack of sulfur content and high working hardening rate. SA 312 UNS S31254 needs to be annealed followed by quenching by water. Post process annealing is recommended to retain maximum corrosion resistance.
