ASTM A182 F316L Stainless Steel Forged Flange B16.5
The ASTM A182 F316L Stainless Steel Flange is the low carbon version of 316 and is immune from sensitisation (grain boundary carbide precipitation). Therefore it is extensively used in heavy gauge welded components. And these Flanges are readily available for applications in the industrial, architectural, and transportation fields.
As a derivative of F316 stainless steel, F316L is an alloy whose chemistry is almost similar to that of the former metal, save for the reduction of carbon content in its alloy. The significant reduction in the content of carbon in the ASTM A182 F316L Flanges is what yields high compatibility with welding and eliminates intergranular corrosion caused by sensitization of grain boundary precipitates. However, the low content of carbon also indicates that alloy F316L has a low structural strength.
