What is stub end?
Used in conjunction with a backing flange, a Stub End is, essentially, a short length of pipe with one flared end and one square-cut end, which is welded to a pipe of the same NPS, material grade and schedule. The combination of a Stub End and a backing flange is generally used as an alternative to a standard flange.
What is the difference between stub end A and C?
Type A Stub Ends are standard length and Type B Stub Ends are longer in Length for the Higher Pressure Flanges with Longer overall length. Type C Stub Ends are made on application from Pipe and then the Gasket Surface is machined to fit the project requirement.
What is the difference between lap joint and stub end?
The lap joint flange has no sealing face, only the stub end has the sealing face. The sealing face of a stub end may be plain, serrated, or grooved to allow for a ring type joint. Lap joint flanges are available in many sizes and classes; they are also suitable for elevated temperatures and pressures.
Stub End is a type of pipe fitting used to connect pipes together. The fitting has a stub or a piece of pipe with an outward flare on one side. This enables the fitting to be welded to a pipe of same diameter and wall thickness. The Stainless Steel Stub End is one of the most commonly used. There are different types such as the Titanium Lap Joint Stub End which also has a lap joint on it and made in titanium. It is used with high end applications with high corrosion risk and high temperatures along with high strength. The other material made fittings include the SS 304 Short Stub end which is the most cost effective material. The 304 is a chromium nickel austenitic stainless steel.
In addition to the 304 properties, the 316 Stainless Steel Long Stub end holds more corrosion resistance because of the addition of molybdenum in its composition. There are Duplex Steel Stub End Flange and fittings. Duplex materials are stronger and corrosion resistant. Other grades of steel include the Inconel 625 Stub End Fittings and the Hastelloy C276 Buttweld Stub End. These are nickel chromium and molybdenum alloys. The MSS SP 43 stub end is made up of a wrought stainless steel and the ASTM A403 WP304 Stub End is made up of wrought 304 stainless steel. You can place orders with us for any kind of stub end.
