ASTM A182 F316 is a specification for wrought materials of grade 316 stainless steel for the manufacture of bare forgings or forged and machined products involving high temperature applications.
ASTM A403 is offset by the addition of chromium and tantalum and provides higher creep and stress rupture properties than A304 and A304L, which can also be used for exposures concerned with sensitization and intergranular corrosion. The expansion of columbium also allows ASTM A403 to have outstanding corrosion resistance over A321. ASTM A403H is a higher carbon content form of ASTM A403 and exhibits enhanced high temperature and creep properties.ASTM A182 F316L fitting is an austenitic Cr-Ni stainless steel. It could be a low carbon subsidiary of F316. Like its high carbon counterpart, F316L is now commonly used in numerous industries including brewing, marine, food processing, mining, medical, automotive, aerospace, oil and gas. This alloy is very resistant to oxidation in intermittent operation up to 870 degrees Celsius and continuous operation up to 925 degrees Celsius. Continuous use of this low carbon variation F316L between 425 – 860Deg.C is not recommended if 316L stainless steel forgings need to be resistant to corrosion in water due to its resistance to carbide precipitation. ASTM A182 may be Martensitic SS. The addition of nickel and molybdenum provides excellent sub-zero notch ductility superior to other standard 13 Cr, 410 and 420 Mod martensitic stainless steels. 316L stainless steel forged fittings can be martensitic stainless steel. Nickel and molybdenum reinforcement provides excellent sub-zero indentation ductility superior to other standard 13 Cr, 410 and 420 Mod martensitic SS. Grade F316H is recommended when high strength at temperatures above 500 degrees Celsius is required. SS 316L forged fittings also suffer from stress corrosion cracking above 60°C
