What is BLRF Flange?
ASTM A105 is the representative material for carbon steel blind flanges, available in raised face (RF), ring joint and flat face (FF).
The blind flange is a plate connected at the end of the pipe to close the pipe and facilitate cleaning, inspection and modification. Its function is the same as that of the pipe plug and pipe cap, but it is detachable.
It is attached to flanges or flange fittings by bolting between them to provide a seal, and should be placed where isolation is required, such as before or after nozzles of fixtures, shut-off valves or both between the flanges.
There are many types of gaskets, including industrial rubber sheets, asbestos rubber sheets, PTFE gaskets, wound gaskets, etc. The selection is affected by many factors, but attention should be paid to the type, temperature and pressure of the fluid.
What is A105 flange?
ASTM A105 is the most commonly used carbon steel material grade for the manufacture of forged piping components, for example, flanges and forged fittings for small diameter piping. This carbon steel material grade is used for environmental and high temperature management in pressure frames.
Carbon steel A105 flange covers seamless forged carbon steel piping assemblies for pressurized systems in high temperature service and environments. Heat treatment is not a 105 flange material, except for special design flanges with unknown design pressure or design temperature above grade 300, and items with 4 inch NPS and grade 300 above 300.
A 105 blind flange is forged between 1700°F and 2200°F, then quenched and tempered.
The Description of Raised Face
Raised face is almost the most common sealing type among all kind of flanges and is easy to identify. This type flange has a higher gasket surface than bolting circle face. BLRF Flange can increase the pressure containment capability of the joint.
The height of raised face are fixed in most manufacture standards except ASME standard. In this standard, the raised face height will increase along with the pressure.
The flange pressure rating are: 150 LB, 300 LB , 600 LB , 900 LB , 1500 LB , and 2500 LB .
