ASTM A335/ASME SA335 P9 Alloy Steel Seamless Pipe
ASTM A335 P9 Alloy Steel Seamless Pipe is a seamless ferritic alloy-steel pipe used for high-temperature applications. These pipes are versatile and can be used to transmit water, oil and natural gas.
The ASTM A335 P9 Seamless Pipe is made up of carbon, manganese, phosphorus, silicon, sulfur with chromium and molybdenum. This specific combination makes A335 P9 Seamless Pipes have good mechanical properties. The material could also be heat treated by full or isothermal annealing, normalized and tempered conditions.
ASTM A335 is often called chrome moly pipe because of the chemical makeup of Molybdenum (Mo) and Chromium (Cr). The addition of chromium and molybdenum is the key to the composition of alloy P9. Chromium improves high-temperature strength, increases oxidation resistance and raises the tensile, yield and hardness at room temperatures. Molybdenum increases the strength, elastic limit, resistance to wear, impact qualities and hardenability. It increases the resistance to softening, restrains grain growth and makes chromium steel less susceptible to embrittlement. Moly is also the most effective additive for increasing high temperature creep strength, or creep resistance. It also enhances the corrosion resistance of steel and inhibits pitting.
