ASTM A182 F904L Flange Definition
ASTM A182 is the Standard Specification for Forged Stainless Steel Pipe Flanges and Stainless Steel Forged Fittings.
ASTM 182 is used for pressure systems, including flanges, fittings, and similar parts that conform to specified dimensions or dimensional standards such as ASME codes.
ASTM A182 F904L flange is an unstable austenitic stainless steel with low carbon content. This high alloy stainless steel has copper added to increase its resistance to strong reducing acids such as sulfuric acid. The steel is also resistant to stress corrosion cracking and crevice corrosion. Grade 904L is non-magnetic and has excellent formability, toughness and weldability.
Stainless steel 904L flanges contain many expensive components such as molybdenum and nickel. Today, most applications using the 904L grade have been replaced by the lower cost dual phase 2205 grade.
