ASTM A312 S31254/254SMO Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe
ASTM A312 UNS S31254 Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe efficiently resists pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress corrosion cracking. 254 SMO Duplex Stainless Steel pipe is well known for high ductility and good impact strength. It is also known as 6 Mo due to the addition of molybdenum in trace amounts. Alloys 254 / 254 SMO / 6 Mo is an austenitic stainless steel with a high molybdenum content. Coupled with Nickel and Copper, the steel has a good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in environments containing halide ions, e.g. chloride, bromide and fluoride solutions. It is designed with a combination of impact toughness resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, and pitting and crevice corrosion.
ASTM A312 UNS S31254 is used in saltwater handling, chemical processing, food processing, and petroleum production as well as in pulp mill bleach systems, tall oil distillation columns, and flue gas desulfurization scrubbers. UNS S31254 Pipe is tough to machine due to lack of sulfur content and high working hardening rate. ASTM A312 UNS S31254 needs to be annealed followed by quenching by water. Post process annealing is recommended to retain maximum corrosion resistance.
